Contact person: Hans Bruun Nielsen, IMM, Building 305, Tel. +45 4525 3077
Aim: To introduce the students to the techniques of technical report writing and numerical calculations on computers. The students learn how to make an appropriate choice of numerical method for a given mathematical problem, taking into consideration the amount of computational work required and the accurancy obtained.
Contents: Introduction to MATLAB and technical report writing. Representation of numbers on a computer. Approximation errors and rounding errors. Algorithms for numerical differentiation, numerical integration, determination of zeros of functions, numerical solution of ordinary diffential equations, solution of systems of linear and nonlinear equations, eigenvalue problems, curve-fitting. Realisation of the algorithms in MATLAB.
