12531 Marine Structures
Danish title: Marin vandbygning
Language:  English    ECTS-creditpoints:  10
Type:  civil engineering course
Class schedule:   F5
Exam schedule:   No exam
Recommended semester:  7th - 9th semester
Scope and form:  Lectures, exercises
Evaluation:  Approval of coursework/reports
Examination:  13-scale
Aim:  (1) To describe all significant hydrodynamic forces on offshore structures.
(2) To learn to assess and determine design forces for hydraulic structures, to choose and design structures regarding forces, geotechnical and other local conditions, to show examples of solutions to complicated engineering problems, and how to choose the best alternative.
Contents:  Description of wave climate offshore (irregular and three-dimensional waves), current and wave forces on cylinders and pipelines, offshore structures, bridge piers and off-shore windmills foundations (drag and inertia forces). Response of the structures. Vibration analysis regarding fixed and compliant systems. Design forces due to ice, wind and impact from ships. Wave agiation, mooring- and fender systems in harbours, at open terminals and for offshore loading systems. Physical model tests and scale effects.
