10322 Experimental Mössbauer Spectroscopy
Danish title: Eksperimentel Mössbauer spektroskopi
Language:  English    ECTS-creditpoints:  5
Type:  civil engineering course, open university
Class schedule:   January June
Exam schedule:   Arrange with teacher
Recommended semester:  4th -7th semester
Scope and form:  Laboratory work.
Evaluation:  Oral presentation and approval of reports
Examination:  Pass/fail
Previous course:  10465
Prerequisites:  10201 / 10110 / 10253 / 10312
No credit points with:  10465
Participant limitation:  Max. 6
Aim:  The student learns to perform Mössbauer spectroscopy measurements on solid materials, to analyze them by use of standard computer programs and to interpret the results.
Contents:  As an introduction a number of reference samples are studied in order to illustrate typical applications of Mössbauer spectroscopy to obtain information about the valence state of metal atoms and their interaction with neighbouring atoms. The technique is then applied in a small project where measurements are performed on selected samples e.g. alloys, catalysts, meteorites, magnetic tapes, building materials, biological samples, geological samples or ceramics.
