10374 Lasers
Danish title: Laserteknik
Language:  English    ECTS-creditpoints:  10, External examination.
Type:  civil engineering course, open university
Class schedule:   E2
Exam schedule:   E2-A (Dec 12 2001), F2-A (May 29 2002)
Recommended semester:  4th -7th semester
Scope and form:  Lectures, demonstrations, groupwork ect.
Evaluation:  Written exam
Examination:  13-scale
Previous course:  10243
Prerequisites:  10100, 10211 / 10370
Preferred prerequisites:  48110
No credit points with:  10243
Aim:  The course aims towards an introduction into the fundamental properties of lasers. The student must be able to explain the physical principles behind laser action and to describe a number of actual laser systems. He / she must be able to solve simple problems in relation to the properties of light in optical resonators, coherent light and the interaction between light and matter. The application of a number of lasers is described so that the student will be able to use commercial laser systems in connection with an actual problem. In addition to the theoretical course an experimental course running over 6 afternoons is given. The purpose of this course is to provide the student with an experimental knowledge of coherent optical radiation, laser systems, laser components and applications.
