| Aim: Knowledge of a number of fundamental concepts and methods in mathematics and structural mechanics, and the use of mathematical methods for solving some typical problems in structural mechanics |
| Contents: Formulation of models in selected typical problems in structural mechanics (beams, columns), and some mathematical tools that are used for the analysis of such models. This comprises: Differential equations, including boundary and eigenvalue problems for ordinary linear differential equations. Linear systems, solution methods and structure results. Sequences. Infinite series. Power series. Fourier series. Infinite series as solution for ordinary differential equations. The course presents an interplay between mathematics and structural mechanics and projects etc. integrates the two disciplines. |
Remarks: Required course in mathematics for students in Civil- and Construction Engineering. The course is only open for students in the programme. The course is offered by the Department of Mathematics (MAT) and the Department of Buildings and Energy (BYG-DTU). A typical week of the course includes: Monday: 13.00-13.45 Lecture (mathematics) 14.00-15.30 Problem sessions, computer lab Thursday: 08.30-10.00 Problem sessions, computer lab 10.15-11.00 Lecture (mathematics or structural mechanics) 11.15-12.00 Lecture (mathematics or structural mechanics) |
