Aim:  To give an overview of clinical physiological measurement techniques and to present the most common technical equipment that is used for diagnosis and treatment of illnesses, with emphasis on the physical measurement situations. To illustrate applications of the many technical areas taught at DTU.
Contents:  Bioelectromagnetism (nerves, electrodes, amplifiers, signals from muscles, heart and brain). Various clinical measurements (blood flow, perfusion, urology, respiration, and chemical analysis). Techniques for recording images showing structure and function of the organs in the body (ultrasound, x-ray (shadow images and tomographic images (CT), magnetic resonance imaging, positron emission tomography, single photon emission computer tomography). Product development. Medical Technology assessment. A report about a specific topic (chosen by the student) is written and presented.
Remarks:  The course is an entry course for a number of curses on Biomedical Engineering: 49414, 49415, 49416, 49419.
