27552 Moulds in Buildings and Indoor Climate
Danish title: Skimmelsvampe i bygninger og indeklima
Language:  English    ECTS-creditpoints:  5
Type:  , open university
Class schedule:   juni
Exam schedule:   No exam
Scope and form:  Lectures, seminars, projects and laboratory excercises
Evaluation:  Oral presentation and approval of reports
Examination:  Pass/fail
Previous course:  30420
Preferred prerequisites:  At least one advanced course in bioteknology, building energy technology or indoor climate
Participant limitation:  Max. 20
Aim:  To give the students knowledge of the interactions between micro-organisms, building constructions and indoor climate, including the effect on human comfort and industrial hygiene.
Contents:  Training in modern mycological methods for indoor and building inspections, and evaluation of the results. Indoor and building related moulds will be presented and characterised by relevant properties. This will include physical and chemical conditions for growth and survival as well as conditions for production of mycotoxins and other biological active compounds. Heat and moisture conditions in indoor climate and buildings will be presented, and critical conditions will be highlighted. Methods for building inspection and removal and prevention of mould growth on building materials will be discussed. The laboratory excercises will include detection, identification and characterisation of building related moulds.
Remarks:  In collaboration with Department of Buildings and Energy (IBE), Building 118 (Carsten Rode, phone +45 4525 1852, email: car@ibe.dtu.dk) and Department of Energy Engineering (ET), Building 402 (Geo Clausen, phone +45 4525 4025, email: gc@et.dtu.dk).

Students who are particularly interested in mycology courses that deal with biotechnology, taxonomy, physiology, metabolites and ecology are recommended to check the course catalogue of Öresund Mycology School; http://www.bot.ku.dk/oms/.
