Aim:  To give the students:
knowledge of the strategic importance of product development for the industry, an understanding of the multi disciplinary character of product development, a general view of the product development process and knowledge of the activities and problems of each phase of product development.
In addition the students should develop skills in solving concrete product development problems.
Contents:  The course is carried out in cooperation with BioCentrum-DTU, Department of Product development and Center for Market Surveillance, Assessment and Analysis in the Food Processing Industry (MAPP). The course contains a teaching period and a period of practical project work where the students in groups of two carry out a product development project.
The task is given by a company in the food industry and support is given by a team of supervisors from BioCentrum-DTU, Department of Product Development,MAPP and the involved companies.
There are 3 periods of class teaching:
1st period: 3 days of class teaching during the first week of the semester in: Product development in the food industry
2nd period: 2 days of class teaching in: The product development process and
Technological and market conditions.
3rd period: one day of class: Presentation of work and results
Between the 1st and 2nd period the students will define their project, set up goals and make a plan for their work. After the second period the group will work independently with their project. Supervision can be arranged with the team of supervisors from Department of Product Development, BioCentrum-DTU and the involved companies.
