Aim:  The course is intended to provide the student with an understanding of the basic properties of masonry in order to make him / her able to decide whether or not masonry can be applied in a specific case in practice. If so they will be able to prescribe optimal combination of mortar and brick. Further they will be able to verify strength and duclibity requirements for various structural elements (walls, columns, beams, panels etc.).
Contents:  Structural applications of masonry. Masonry in modern architecture. Statical properties - compression strength, tensile strengths, stiffness. Calculation of umreinforced elements-, vaults, columns, disks and walls including composite walls. Calculation of non shear reinforced beams. Calculation of other reinforced elements - columns, walls and disks.
