Aim:  To enable the students to understand and apply fundamental principles and computational methods concerning elastic beam and frame structures. To give the students an introduction to the theory of plasticity.
Contents:  Stability of columns, the differential equations, Eulers formula, approximate solutions, the finite element method. Yield conditions. Plastic hinge theory. Bearing capacity of bolted connections.
Remarks:  Offered for the last time fall semester 2001
