Aim: The fundamental principles of optroelectronics and optoelectronic systems are introduced giving a basis for further specialization within the optoelectronics area. The student will learn fundamental semiconductor optics and physics and physics relevant for emission and detection of light. Optical components like light emitting diodes, laser diodes, optical amplifiers and modulators will be treated. |
Contents: Introduction of relevant semiconductor physics including doping, carrier transport and the pn junction. III-V semiconductor processing. Optical properties of semiconductors including loe-dimensional semiconductor structures. Optical components. Signal processing and noise including modulation and amplification of light. |
Remarks: From 2002 recommended semester will be 7th with prerequisite 10300 (Solid State Physics). |
