Aim:  To provide participants with an understanding of the principles used in construction of modern digital communication systems in particular the use of error-correcting codes.
Contents:  Entropy of sources, channel capacity, error-correcting codes, digital modulation methods, signal space codes.
Remarks:  C0159/01259 Algebraic Coding Theory and 34240/(52421) Data Compression are recommended as a supplement.

We plan to make changes to the course in 2002.
