Aim:  To provide a detailed understanding of modern data networks, including the complexity of these networks. The students are expected to have a basic understanding of the most common types of local area networks, such as data network and the Internet. Furthermore, newer types of data networks will be described.
Contents:  Routing in packet-switched data networks, including the Internet. Routing protocols in the Internet (BGP, OSPF). Routing in Multicast networks. Performance of data networks, espcially local area networks (LANs). Support of Quality-of-Service (QoS) in the Internet. Flow and Congestion Control in the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP). Performance of TCP. Wireless Networks.
