Aim:  The course supplements 34320 (Introduction to Communication Systems) and is focusing on wireless communication systems as a basis for development of user mobility. From a technological and usability oriented perspective the course will focus on how the need for communication can be supported and how the need for mobility will influence the development of wireless communication systems.
Contents:  The course will give the students an introduction to wireless technologies (GSM and the future systems EDGE, TETRA and UMTS) and to the radio channel. Furthermore, the course will give an introduction to wireless services and their platforms, the media and services convergences and the "mobile Internet". The need for "integrated networks" will be discussed. The course includes project works and visits to mobile exchanges and radio base stations. Companies in the wireless industry will be involved in giving the students up-to-date information about the future mobile technology and mobile services and will contribute with a number of guest lectures.
