Aim: To give an introduction to computer-supported cooperative work or CSCW ("groupware" etc.). The course will introduce the student to the conceptual foundation for developing IT systems that support collaboration in organizations. |
Contents: The course aims at giving the student a concrete understanding og coooperative work and of the challenges that must be met for computer-supported cooperative work to become reality. The major part of the course work will consist in developing possible technical solutions to described cases (in project groups). The course will give the student insight into the following aspects of CSCW: - The evolution of CSCW as a research and development area; the current state of CSCW technologies. - Theories of cooperative work; issues of IT support of cooperative work. - Approaches to the analysis of cooperative work and the design of CSCW systems. - Overview of CSCW technologies: shared work spaces and media spaces (audio, video, graphics); common information spaces ("document management systems", "knowledge management systems"); coordination technology ("configuration management systems", "workflow management systems"). - Enabling technologies and architectures, including the advantages and disadvantages of the WWW as a platform for CSCW-systems. |
Remarks: The seminars are in Danish. English-speaking students can arrange to take the course as a special course. |
