Aim:  To provide students with a knowledge concerning 1) the development of the markets for information and communication based services and adjoining forms of electronic business with respect to the driving forces in supply and demand and business models, 2) the standardization processes that contribute to the development of the common technological infrastructures.
Contents:  The convergence between IT, telecommunications and mass media forms the basis for new possibilities for developing information and communication services and electronic business. Convergence also leads to a break-up of the dividing lines between different media, including existing busness models. The course gives an overview of the driving technological, economic and political forces in the establishment of new markets for information and communication services and the business models that are developing on this background. Formal and informal processes leading up to the establishment of standards for information and communication technologies and services are examined. The common theoretical basis for the subjects in the course is new network and information economics.
