13120 Public Transport Planning
Theory, models, application and planning
Danish title: Kollektiv trafikplanlægning
Language:  English    ECTS-creditpoints:  10, External examination.
Type:  , course at phd level, open university
Program:  Society, Planning and Technology
Class schedule:   E5
Cancel Autumn 2001
Exam schedule:   Arrange with teacher
The course is carried out as a mixture of discussions, selfstudies and project work
Recommended semester:  4th -7th semester
Scope and form:  Special sessions are given for english students. This involves self-study of english literature to a higher extent as for the Danish students. The responsible teacher can reject students with too few skills in transport and mathematics
Evaluation:  Oral exam and approval of reports
Two exersises in simulation models and traffic models, combined into a traffic planning project. This is defended in a oral examination
Examination:  13-scale
Previous course:  C6723
Prerequisites:  13110 Statistics and operations research at a university level
Preferred prerequisites:  GIS and advanced classes in statistics and oiperations research
No credit points with:  C6723
Aim:  To achieve a theoretical and practical understanding of the methods and models that are used for planning and operation of public transport
Contents:  Infrastructure elements and special futures concerning rail traffic. Capacity, simulation and queuetheortical models for rail traffic. Introduction to tools and methods for timetable planning. Traffic and route choice models for public transport, including an introduction to stochastic utility theory and estimation routines. GIS-based methods to handling public transport network. Strategic models for the interrelationships between traffic, car-ownership and localization. Impact models for safety, time-elements, accessibility and environment. Special considerations for socioeconomic evaluation of public transport, and uncertainties in appraisals. The main focus is on mathematical simulation and traffic models. Parallel to this is solved a traffic planning project as part of the evaluation
