Prerequisites:  12100 (63130) Basic knowledge in environmental processer (biology, chemistry, hydrology, hydraulics)
No credit points with:  63350
Aim:  To be able to explain and perform calculations of the processes (physical, chemical, and biological) that influence the behavior of pollutants in streams, lakes and marine systems.
Contents:  Discussion of the behavior of different types of pollutants (organic matter, nutrients, and xenobiotic compounds) in surface waters (streams, lakes, estuaries and the sea). The focus will mainly be on the interaction between hydrology and chemical and biological processes, in order to be able to understand and predict the negative effects caused by pollutants in these environments. For instance: oxygen depletion, eutrophication and algal growth, acidification, pollution related to discharge of heavy metals, xenobiotic compounds and micro organisms.
Remarks:  The course is offered for the last time in autumn semester 2001
