12340 Flow and Transport in Porous Media
Danish title: Strømning og transport i porøse medier
Language:  English    ECTS-creditpoints:  10
Type:  , course at phd level, open university
Program:  Civil Engineering, Environment & Planning
Class schedule:   E4
Exam schedule:   No exam
Recommended semester:  7th - 9th semester
Scope and form:  Lectures, laboratoty exercises, solving of problems
Evaluation:  Approval of coursework/reports
Examination:  13-scale
Previous course:  57237, 57339
Prerequisites:  12320 Hydrology
No credit points with:  57237, 57339
Aim:  (1) to obtain an in-depth understanding of flow and transport processes in the unsaturated zone and in groundwater
(2) to become acquainted with laboratory techniques for measuring hydraulic parameters and for flow investigations
(3) to obtain a physical understanding of multiphase flow phenomena in porous media
(4) to develop and apply numerical models
Contents:  Groundwater flow and transport in relation to geological anisotropy and heterogeneity, geostatistics, fracture flow, density dependent flow, reactive transport. Non-steady flow in the unsaturated zone, pameterisation and heterogeneity of soil physical parameteres, solute transport. Multiphase flow in porous media (water-air, water-oil, water-oil-air), capillary pressure and relative permeability curves, flow and remediation of light and dense organic fluids. Flow, transport and diffusion in air, air venting, air sparging, and steam injection for in-situ remediation of organic contamination.
