Aim: To introduce the students to methods and techniques of experimental physics and further their knowledge of measurement equipment and transducers. Through work with specific physical problems it is the aim to familiarize the students with planning of measurements and their accomplishment, based on the laws of physics and by the use of suitable models. Subsequently the measured data are analyzed and worked up. Great importance is attached to error analysis, which is part of the presentation of experimental results. Therefore, reproducibility of measurements and estimation of systematic errors are central subjects in connection with the experimental work. Reporting is compulsory for all experimental work. |
Contents: Project: Subjects with relation to the research activities at the Department of Physics and a few other DTU institutes are offered, and the students choose among these. After a planning phase the students present their project expectations orally. Later they write a half-way report, which is meant to strengthen the quality of the experimental work in the final phase and of the project report itself. |
