Aim: Introduction to modern physics, it's concepts and applications. With emphasis on areas of importance for modern technology and natural science. The student will be introduced to identify and solve simple problems of importance for modern biology, chemistry, physics and electronics. |
Contents: Elements of the theory of relativity. Electromagnetic waves and their quantification. Particle waves, uncertainty, tunneling. Quantum mechanics and stationary states: Particle gas, oscillator, central field problem. Quanntization of angular momentum, spin. Atoms and molecules: X-ray radiation, atomic spectrums, gaslaser, molecular spectrums. The solid state: Band theory, semiconductor devices, lasers, superconductivity. Statistical physics, Bosons and Fermions. |
