Previous course: 10211 / 10213 |
Prerequisites: 10013 / 10015 / 48000 (simultaneously) |
Aim: The course provides a broad introduction to Optics and gives a physical understanding of light, the properties of light, how light interacts with matter and how light is used for measuring and in communication. Emphasis is put on both the physical and practical understanding of Optics and the components that are used in optical technology. During the course demonstrations are shown, and it will be possible to attend practical exercises. |
Contents: Ray optics, matrix optics, wave optics. Optical components, interference, Fourier Optics, electromagnetic optics, polarization, crystal optics, wave guides, fiber optics. Furthermore topics like quantum optics, nonlinear optics, optical communication, photonic crystals and holography will be mentioned. There are also exercises like properties of laser light, optical signal analysis and holography during the course. |
