Recommended semester: 7th - 9th semester
Scope and form: Lectures and problem solving
| Evaluation: Oral exam
|
Examination: 13-scale
Previous course: 10376
Prerequisites: 10370 / 10211
Preferred prerequisites: 10372, 10374
No credit points with: 10247
Aim: The purpose is to give the students a sufficiently advanced introduction to the mechanisms of the interaction between matter and laser radiation so that they are able to follow the development within the area of non-linear optics, and that they are able to apply this knowledge in research and development.
Contents: Wave propagation in anisoptropic materials and magneto-optic effects. Optical non-linearities of second order (frequency doubling, parametric oscillators and electro-optic effects). Optical non-linearities of third order (four wave mixing, phase conjugation, optical bistability). Photorefractivity. Applications in the area of optical signal processing.
