Aim:  Introduction of a number of fundamental concepts in mechanical physics, which are important for the understanding of other courses and in professional engineering applications. Training in analysing physical situations, setting up appropiate equations and solving them. Special emphasis is put on the development of a critical, scientific approach when applying general formulas and methods to specific situations.
Contents:  Kinematics. Relative velocity. Newton's laws. Centre og mass. Frictional forces. gravitation. Frames of reference with linear acceleration and rotation. Centrifugal force. Work. Potential energy. Kinetic energy of systems of particles. Moment of inertia. Steiner's theorem. Power. Angular momentum and torque. Simple harmonic motion. Physical pendulum.
