02226 High-performance Operating Systems

Aim:  To introduce qualitative and quantitative techniques usedin the construction and evaluation of operating systems for computersystems where performance is important, such as for real-timeapplications, communication systems and multimedia systems.
Contents:  Quantitative and algorithmic aspects of real-timescheduling, virtual memory and memory management, task managementand synchronisation in uniprocessor and multiprocessor systems,inter-process communication, drivers and I / O systems, disc and filesystems, networks. Modelling and evaluation of performance. OSarchitecture and technology. Examples: High-speed networking,multimedia systems, graphics.
