02330 Distributed Embedded Systems
Danish title: Distribuerede indlejrede systemer
Language:  Danish    ECTS-creditpoints:  10, External examination.
Class schedule:   E5-A
Exam schedule:   End of 3-week course
Recommended semester:  3rd semester
Evaluation:  Approval of coursework/reports
Examination:  13-scale
Prerequisites:  Datateknik A (02310) og Datateknik B (02320)
Aim:  To give students the possibility to:
- design, make operable, and debug distributed embedded systems for industrial or instrumental purposes.
- connect an embedded processor with the sourrounding physical world, both in and out.
- to exercise systematic working methods.
Contents:  - Conversion of physical entities to computer-based ones and the opposite.
- Different CPU architectures and their influence on hard real time systems.
- Networks specialised on control purposes, like the CAN bus. Protocols for that.
- Principles for construction of distributed, real time systems.
- Synchronisation between remote processors.
- Hierarchical systems.
- Robustness and reliability.
- Methods for development, test and operation of dependable distributed systems.

A distributed, embedded system will be constructed, based on a network of processors.
Remarks:  The course consists of a combined theory/exercise period and a project period. The participants are grouped in groups, expected to cooperate on projects.
