Aim: The Purpose of the Course is to make the students able to understand and use the fundamental concepts and principles of modern data communication systems.
Furthermore the students should be able to: - Understand the structure of the Internet and its protocols - Set up and maintain WEB sites on the Internet - Understand the principles behind setting up and maintaining WEB servers - Use tools for WEB publishing, HTML, JAVA and CGI -Communicate with Data Bases via the Internet, ASP, ODBC - Understand security aspect in Intra- and Internet. |
Contents: - Information Theory, entropy of Information Sources, Efficiency of Codes. - International Standards for Interfaces between Terminals and networks. - ISO's 7 layer model for Data Communication (the OSI model). Protocols for transfer of data between layers in the OSI model. - Standards for Local Area Networks (LANs), advantages and disadvantages of different types of networks. Detection and correction of transmission errors. -Network topologies and the solution of routing problems in already existing networks. - The structure of the Internet and its protocol stacks. - Fundamentals of HTML, set up of a Home Page including text, graphics and links. - Advanced HTML (tables, forms, frames), JAVA Scripts and how to use JAVA applets, CGI programming. - Communication with Data Bases via the WEb, ASP and ODBC standards. Setting up of WEB servers, presentation of different tools. |
