Previous course:  04040 / 04041
No credit points with:  04040, 04041, C0401, C0410
Aim:  To give the participants an introduction to the basic probability theory and a profound understanding of statistical distributions, i.e. to give them an understanding of vatiation and statistical distributions and the use of statistical models. Furthermore, the participants will be able to understand information based on data analysis, e.g. in newspapers. In addition the participants will be able to deal with the great amount of data produced everywhere in the information society.
Contents:  Basic probability theory, random variables, multidimensional random variables. Methods to get familiarized with and to process a dataset: Empirical distributions, bar charts, q-q-plot, box-plot. Model formulation. Estimation theory. Test theory: in one and two sample situations. In contingency tables, with distribution free methods. Model control: Test for randomness, control of distribution law. One-way and two-way analysis of variance, Latin squares, regression analysis etc.
Remarks:  The course is a general methodological course aimed at all engineering students.
