Aim:  To introduce the basic tools of Geographical Information Systems (GIS). To give an insight into spatial information, geographical data sets, their quality, keys and accessibility through project work, lectures and seminars
Contents:  The course deals with:
- Digital maps, including technical maps, topographical maps, cadastral maps and the co-ordinate systems UTM and S34
- Data bases, relational databases and queries with SQL
- Explorative data analysis, measures for spatial continuity, spatial interpolation
- GIS tools, visualization, geometrical models
- Networks and network topology, dynamic segmentation and route systems, GIS in traffic planning and geological databases and maps
Remarks:  The course is offered as a co-operation between different subject groups, representing among other things: mapping, mathematical models, database theory, computer graphics, traffic planning and geology.
