Aim: To introduce the basic tools of Geographical Information Systems (GIS). To give an insight into spatial information, geographical data sets, their quality, keys and accessibility through project work, lectures and seminars |
Contents: The course deals with: - Digital maps, including technical maps, topographical maps, cadastral maps and the co-ordinate systems UTM and S34 - Data bases, relational databases and queries with SQL - Explorative data analysis, measures for spatial continuity, spatial interpolation - GIS tools, visualization, geometrical models - Networks and network topology, dynamic segmentation and route systems, GIS in traffic planning and geological databases and maps |
Remarks: The course is offered as a co-operation between different subject groups, representing among other things: mapping, mathematical models, database theory, computer graphics, traffic planning and geology. |
