Aim: To enable students to solve large operations research problems using linear programming. This entails formulating a linear optimization model, using the GAMS program on IMM's computer system to solve the model, evaluate alternatives, and finally describe results and conclusions in a report. Since the various standard programs for linear programming are rather similar, the knowledge gained is not restricted to the software employed here. |
Contents: The theoretical background from Introduction to Operations Research is supplemented by introducing a standard program for formulating and solving linear programming models, and various standard LP models are discussed using examples. After this, most of the time is spent on independent work solving two large problems and writing a report. |
