Aim:  -To enable the students to plan, participate in, and manage projects in developing societies.
-To give the students competences in analysing international technology and knowledge transfer, technology policies i developing societies, and learning processes in building technological capacity in institutions and companies in developing societies
-To give the students concepts and methods to analyse economic, political and cultural factors in various types of developing societies, and how these relate to globalisation.
-To give the students knowledge about strategies for capacity building and institutional development, and planning approaches and tools,including objective-oriented versus adaptive, user-oriented planning, actor analysis, and indicators for monitoring and evaluation of projects in developing societies
-To give the students knowledge about methods for data collection, e.g. qualitative interviewing, observation and documentary sources.
Contents:  -Theories and methods about technology and knowledge transfer and technological change in developing societies
-Theories and methods about developing societies and globalisation
-Concepts, strategies and methods about capacity building and institutional change in developing societies
-Methods for project planning, monitoring and evaluation: Logical Framework Approach (LFA) similar tools, actor analysis a.o.
-Methods for inter-cultural dialogue in development projects, sector programmes and private companies; and methods for data collection in developing societies.
-International activities of companies and their significance for technology and knowledge transfer concerning, e.g. the environment.
-Analysis of cases and projects involving engineering problem solution at one or more levels in a developing society.
-Planning of a long-term field study in a developing country.
Remarks:  The course includes elements from the previous courses 85241 Third World Studies, 85401 Teknology transfer and development aid, and 85403 Environmental policy and technological development in developing countries
