Type: , course at phd level, open university |
Exam schedule:
|
F4-B (jun 06 2002), E4-B (dec 19 2001) |
Recommended semester: 7th - 9th semester |
Scope and form: Lectures, work in groups as well as on individual basis |
Evaluation: Oral presentation and approval of reports
The student is asked to prepare 6 reports during the semester about relevant topics of the curriculum. At the oral examination one of these topics decided by lot is presented. The student has two hours to prepare the lecture. |
Examination: 13-scale |

Prerequisites: C3300 / 28110 Introductory Courses in Chemistry or Introductory Courses in Technical Physics |
No credit points with: C3535 / 21380 |
Aim: To give the students an overview of the most important ceramic materials with special emphasis on characteristic production methods as well as important physical and chemical properties and emphasizing problems related to compatibility of materials. |
Contents: Raw materials and their treatment (particle technology, rheology, industrial shaping processes, drying. High temperature processes (sintering, melting, crystallization). Traditional ceramics, cement, glass, glass ceramics, refractories and materials for thermal insulation. Advanced technical materials with special properties (chemical, mechanical, electrical, magnetic etc.). High performance coating materials (formed by CVD, PVD or electrochemical methods). The structure of ceramics (including nanostructures and their properties). Diffusion, ionic conductivity and kinetics in ceramics. Phase equilibria (especially the use of three-component phase diagrams). |
