Aim:  To give the students an understanding of the various forms of energy and their transformation as described in basic thermodynamics.
Contents:  The main theme is chemical thermodynamics for pure substances and for mixtures of gases. Specifically, the following issues are discussed: The 1st, 2nd and 3rd laws of thermodynamics, thermodynamic systems and state functions, reversible and irreversible processes, thermochemistry, heat engines, phase diagrams of pure substances, surfaces, properties of gases and kinetic gas theory.
