No credit points with: 23117 / C2317 |
Participant limitation: Max. 96 |
Aim: To practise basic laboratory techniques, aiming at synthesis of organic compounds, their purification and analysis using chromatography and spectroscopy. To illustrate and extend the theory in 23110 Organic Chemistry 1 and to some extent 23220 Organic Chemistry 2 / 26410 Organic Chemistry B. |
Contents: Simple organic chemical unit operations in the laboratory. Synthesis and analysis of organic compounds. Thin layer and gas chromatography. IR spectroscopy. Polarimetry. Safety in the laboratory, including the use of handbooks. |
Remarks: The course is a mandatory requirement for all other laboratory courses in organic chemistry. With regard to later laboratory courses in organic chemistry and biochemistry, it is recommended that 26406 is taken early in the studies. It is advantageous to take it in parallel with 26410, since some of the theory covered in 26410 (spectroscopy, reaction mechanisms) is used in 26406. |
