26926 Organometallic Chemistry in Organic Synthesis
Danish title: Metalorganisk kemi i organisk syntese
Language:  English    ECTS-creditpoints:  5,7
Type:  course at phd level, open university
Program:  Chemical Engineering
Class schedule:   Forår og kun ulige år
Exam schedule:   Arrange with teacher
Scope and form:  One lecture (from 9 to 11 am) per day during two weeks, homework, an exam two weeks later
Evaluation:  Written exam
Examination:  Pass/fail
Compulsory:  Masters degree in chemistry
Prerequisites:  26430 Organic Chemistry C
Aim:  The aim is to give an introduction to the field of organometallic chemistry, particularly applications of organotransition metal complexes in organic synthesis.
Contents:  The course will start with the fundamentals of structure, bonding, and reactivity of organometallic complexes. This will be followed by preparation and reactions of various transition metal complexes including hydride, alkyl, carbonyl, carbene, alkene, diene, alkyne, allyl, and aryl complexes. In each area, an overview covering both well-established synthetic methods and more recently developed reactions will be given, including methods for asymmetric systhesis (in particular, asymmetric catalysis) and applications on industrial scale.
