28220 Applied Physical Chemistry
Danish title: Teknisk fysisk kemi
Language:  Danish    ECTS-creditpoints:  10, External examination.
Type:  , open university
Class schedule:   E4-A og F4-A
Exam schedule:   F4-A (jun 04 2002), E4-A (dec 18 2001)
Recommended semester:  1st - 4th semester
Scope and form:  Lectures, excercises and projects
Evaluation:  Written exam
Examination:  13-scale
Previous course:  36250 / 21262 / c3651 / c2202
Prerequisites:  21061 / 21001 / 10005 / 10012
Aim:  Multi component systems, including phase equilibria, chemical and electro chelical equilibria. The course will show how this can be used in solving practical chemical, biochemical and chemical engineering problems, which include non-ideal systems. The participant will become familiar with the methods used in calculation of thermodynamic properties of pure components and mixtures, necessary in solving practical problems.
Contents:  Gibbs´phase law. Mixtures (Partial molar properties, activitites etc.). Solutions incl. electrolytes. Phase equilibria (phase diagrams, osmotic pressure, determination of molar mass). Calculation of enthalpy, entropy and fugacity of pure components and mixtures in gaseous and liquid state using equations of state and generalised methods. Critical data, vapour pressure and heat of evaporation. gas-liquid, liquid-liquid, solid-liquid equilibria in binary and multi component mixtures. Activity coefficient calculations. Refrigeration and liquefaction processes. Chemical reaction. Electro chemistry (electro chemical potential, electrodes, redox potential).
