Aim:  To give the students an understanding of the fundamental principles for the design, optimization and operation of chemical reactors.
Contents:  Fluid phases reactions in frequently used reactor types. Computational design of reactor chains and recirculation reactors. Catalytic reactors. Reactors with deactivating catalysts. Diffusion and chemical reaction in catalyst particles. The selection of reactors and operational conditions for multiple reactions. The solution of mole balance and energy balance for ideal reactors and the design of heat exchanger systems for the temperature control of chemical reactors. The analysis of residence time distribution for reactors with ideal and non-ideal flow.
Examples and problems illustrate the application of chemical reactors for industrial chemical production and processes for the conversion of harmfull species in waste streams.
