Danish title: Avanceret fjernvarmeteknik
Language:  English    ECTS-creditpoints:  5, External examination.
Type:  , course at phd level, open university
Class schedule:   F5
The Course is cancelled in spring 2002
Exam schedule:   F5-A (jun 07 2002), E5-A (dec 20 2001)
Recommended semester:  7th - 9th semester
Scope and form:  lectures and case study:
Evaluation:  Oral exam and approval of reports
Oral examination 1/3, approval of report 1/3 and opposition 1/3.
Examination:  13-scale
Previous course:  77583
Prerequisites:  77253 / 77254,77265, 41416
No credit points with:  77583
Aim:  To give the students knowledge of the design and operation of District Heating (DH) and Cooling systems and to enable them to calculate and analyse such systems.
Contents:  Structure of the heating sector in Denmark. Legislation. Components in DH systems. Economic evaluation. Tariffs and heat metering. House stations for heat and hot water supply. Hydraulic design of pipes. Heat loss determination. Calculation of pressures and temperatures in networks. Pumps. Water treatment. Low temperature operation and optimization.

In the beginning of the course a number of overview lecture will be given. Next, the students (working individually or in small groups) will select topics for an individual case study. The case study can be a theoretical study on recent developments in district heating technology or it can be a study of heating systems in Lund, Malmoe, or in Greater Copenhagen in connection with cogeneration, heat pumps, or geothermal energy. The case study will result in a written report that will be presented for the other students. The students will then criticise and evaluate the other students' reports. Finally an oral examination will be carried out.
Remarks:  The course will be given in co-operation with Dept. of Heat and Power Engineering, Lund University of Technology (LTH), as a part of the Øresund University Co-operation.
