Aim: To provide the student with the necessary background for analysis and evaluation of machine constructions on the basis of strength and reliability considerations. |
Contents: Stress and strain. Principal values. Hooke's generalized law. Plane stress and strain. Airy's stress function. Two dimensional problems in polar coordinates. Strength data of construction materials. Mechanisms of plastic deformation. Ideal plasticity. Tresca's and v. Mises' yield hypotheses. Fatigue failure (designing in constant stress amplitude situations). Experimental strain and stress analysis. |
