Aim: To enable the students to analyse a complicated design with known loading and decide which parts of the structure most requrie investigation to prevent yield, buckling, fatigue or brittle fracture. To train the students in simplifying a structure sufficiently to make pssible manual calculation of vital components in order to provide a check on computer solutions. |
Contents: Stress and deflection calculations of elastic membranes and plates. Plastic collopse of beams. Elastic fracture machanics. Corrections for plasticity at fracture. Dimensioning of components exposed to short cycle and long cycle fatigue using fracture mechanics. |
