Aim: The aim of this course is to give the students : - An overview of the most commonly used machine components. - The fundamental insight making them able to select appropriate machine components for a mechanical design based on requirements to the component. - A basic understanding of the working principles of the components. - An overview of the methods for analysis and design of machine components. - An understanding of the failuremechanisms for the machine components. |
Contents: Analysis and dimensioning of the most commonly used machine components, such as: Bolted joints. Methods of analysis and criteria for design of shaft-hub assemblies based on connections with force transmission by friction and positive connections. Keys and cotters, springs, splines, and interference fits. Elastic connections, helical springs, spiral springs, conical disk springs, rubber springs and gas springs. Bearings, analysis methods for the selection of rolling element bearings, and plain bearings. The specification and analysis of tolerances and fits based on requirements to the component function. Transmission elements. Analysis and design of clutches, brakes, belt drives, gear-wheels, and gears and continuously variable traction drives. Tribology fundamentals (lubrication, friction, wear). |
