Aim: To supply the student with practical experience in using commercial finite element programs for numerical solution of problems related to different subjects (strength calculation, heat transfer, electrical fields, flow). Obtaining an understanding of the possibilities and restrictions attached to the application of commercial finite element programs is emphasized. |
Contents: Lectures: The stiffness method as introduction to the finite element method (FEM). Topics related to FEM and the exercises, including element types, mesh, the system of equations, solvers and result presentation. Exercises: Building the analysis model, applying mesh and boundary conditions, solution and result presentation for different problems using ANSYS on UNIX workstations. The exercise of relief is performed during the three weeks period within the different MEK sections (Engineering design, Fluid mechanics, Solid mechanics, Naval architecture). |
