Preferred prerequisites:  Some experience with numerical methods, e.g., from Technical Physics Fagpakke
Aim:  To give the student an introduction to numerical methods in the theory of charge transport through nanostructures.
Contents:  This is a course on applications of the theory of charge transport through nanostructures. The students write themselves the necessary software in the programming language Mathematica (no prior knowledge of this package is required). The first two weeks are used in intruducing the students to the theoretical methods by solving problems with Mathematica. During the third week these methods are used to a problem chosen by the students. The report is a Mathematica Notebook. The topics are chosen so as to match active research at MIC as closely as possible, and will therefore change from year to year. Possible topics include: 1) Wave-packet propagation via the time-dependent Schrödinger equation. 2) Conductance of mesoscopic structures computed with the multiterminal Landauer-Büttiker formula.
