Aim: Remote sensing concerns sensing of properties of the surface and the atmosphere of the Earth by means of air- or spaceborne sensors utilizing electromagnetic radiation. Remote sensing is of utmost importance for the survey of the Earth's climate and environment. Following the increasing interest in the relation between these and human activity there is an increasing interest in education and research within remote sensing. The course aims at a general introduction to techniques used in remote sensing with special emphasis on mi-crowaves, and with some emphasis on the technical description of the sensors in order to further the understanding of for example advantages and limitations by using a certain technique. |
Contents: The course includes a survey with application examples of sensors like side looking radar, altimeter, scatterometer, radiometer, and multispectral scanner. Applications are primarily within oceanography including sea pollution, glaciology including sea ice, farming, and forestry. The course is directly related to the remote sensing research that has developed at EMI through more than 30 years. The course is interdisciplinary and covers geophysical subjects. |
Remarks: The cource is closely related to 31440 Radar and Radiometer Systems |
