Aim:  To give the student the necessary skills to design and implement
common clinical physiological measurement techniques used for diagnosis of diseases and treatment. The emphasis is on the physical measurement situation, rather than instrumentation. To show applications of the many technical areas taught at DTU.
Contents:  Bioelectrical signals: nerves, electrodes, data acquisition, signals
from muscles (EMG), heart (ECG) and brain (EEG). Medical imaging for
visualisation of structure and function of the organs in the body:
ultrasound, x-ray (shadow images and tomographic images (CT)), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), positron emission tomography (PET), single photon emission computer tomography (SPECT). Various clinical measurements: blood flow, perfusion, urology, respiration, and chemical analysis. Product development. Medical Technology
assessment. Most subjects will be introduced via cases, based on a number of laboratory projects. These will be documented in small reports.
Remarks:  The course is an entry course for a number of curses on Biomedical Engineering: 31651, 31652, 31655, 31656, 31661, 31662.
