31661 From Biology to Technical Neural Systems
Danish title: Fra biologi til tekniske neurale systemer
Language:  English    ECTS-creditpoints:  7,5
Type:  , open university
Class schedule:   E4-A
Exam schedule:   No exam
Recommended semester:  7th - 9th semester
Scope and form:  Lectures and mandatory exercises
Evaluation:  Oral exam and approval of reports
Examination:  13-scale
Aim:  Introduction to signal processing in biological systems, biologically inspired models for (spiking) neuron and neural network functionality and possibilities for electronic realization.
Contents:  Fundamental and advanced key issues of time-continous and discrete neuron models and neural networks which are derived from neurophysiological investigations mainly of the retina, cochlea, and visual cortex of mammals. Underlying biological principles and exemplary electronic realisations are discussed and compared in detail. The course is complemented by a set of exercises using computer simulatons.
