Recommended semester: 7th - 9th semester |
Scope and form: Lectures and mandatory exercises |
Evaluation: Oral exam and approval of reports
|
Examination: 13-scale |
Aim: Introduction to signal processing in biological systems, biologically inspired models for (spiking) neuron and neural network functionality and possibilities for electronic realization. |
Contents: Fundamental and advanced key issues of time-continous and discrete neuron models and neural networks which are derived from neurophysiological investigations mainly of the retina, cochlea, and visual cortex of mammals. Underlying biological principles and exemplary electronic realisations are discussed and compared in detail. The course is complemented by a set of exercises using computer simulatons. |
