Exam schedule:
|
F1-A (maj 27 2002), E1-A (dec 10 2001) |
Scope and form: Lectures and computer based exercises |
Evaluation: Oral exam and approval of reports
|
Examination: 13-scale |
Previous course: 50565 |
Prerequisites: 50300 / 36230 / 72231 |
Participant limitation: Min. 6 |
Aim: To give participants an understanding and working ability with issues related to attitude control of spacecrafts, the means and sensors available for attitude determination in space and actuators available to generate mechanical torques to control the attitude of a space vehicle. Having passed the course, participants should be able to design and evaluate simple types of attitude control for a satellite, and should be able to participate in preliminary investigations and assessment for new space projects. This implies that participants have a good overview of the operational phases of a satellite, the various control and stabilisation tasks at hand, basic kinematics and dynamics for a spacecraft in a near Earth orbit and further, that the participant has good hands-on experience on methods for control and stabilisation. |
Contents: The subjects covered will include: Attitude geometry and a summary of orbit properties and terminology, a model of the Earth magnetic field, Attitude hardware, attitude dynamics and control, attitude prediction, attitude stabilization and attitude maneuver control. The course will further introduce representations of direction in space, with particular emphasis on unit quaternions, which are widely used in space related work and in general robotics. Exercises will be computer (Matlab) based simulation and design / implementation of models of a spacecraft in orbit, its attitude determination system and controllers. The excersise will be group-wise organized such that the class makes an entirety that depends on contributions from all groups. |
Remarks: The course will use the book (paperback): "M.Sidi: Spacecraft Attitude Control, 1997" as course material. |
