31820 Electronic Measurements and Instrumentation
Danish title: Elektronisk måling og instrumentering
Language:  English    ECTS-creditpoints:  5, External examination.
Type:  , open university
Class schedule:   E4-B
Exam schedule:   F4-B (jun 06 2002), E4-B (dec 19 2001)
Recommended semester:  4th -7th semester
Scope and form:  Lectures, miniproject and group exercises
Evaluation:  Oral exam
Examination:  13-scale
Previous course:  50200
Prerequisites:  45030 / 48000.10008 / A basic understanding of electronic circuits and components
Participant limitation:  Max. 36
Aim:  To give a basic foundation in essential methods which are used in electronic measurements of physical quantities. A number of principles used to convert a physical parameter into an electrical signal are explained and the first processing of the signal is discussed.
Contents:  The course begins with an introduction to instrumentation systems in general plus a number of selected transducers such as thermocouples, thermistors and strain gages together with transducers based on inductive, capacitive, piezoelectrical and photoelectrical effects. After this a more thorough treatment is given to some selected fields of measurements such as temperature, pressure, displacement, deformation, force and velocity of flow etc. Based on radiation instrumentation the course introduces statistical methods used to process measured results in general. Finally the principles for calibration of instruments are discussed with the IAU satellite instruments as examples.
