Scope and form:  Lectures and individual exercises using partly ready MATLAB programs.
Evaluation:  Approval of coursework/reports
Examination:  13-scale
Prerequisites:  Knowledge of MATLAB (closely related to MAPLE), linear algebra (01005 / 01007), elementary probality and statistics (01142 / 02401), elementary statics and strength of materials (01034 / 11511 / 41501).
Preferred prerequisites:  41212. No aversion against abstraction and mathematically characterized theory.
Participant limitation:  Min. 5
Remarks:  The course does not include specific current codes of practice but solely the superior scientific background for such documents. Certain relevant probabilistic documents can be downloaded from http://www.jcss.ethz.ch/
The exercises may possibly be related to the students own area of interest.
