Aim: The course objective for this specific course is, by delaing with a specific project, to practice and industry oriented way of organizinf when dealing with large product development projects.
Some of the general characteristics for such a project are:
1. That they have to be made as a group work
2. That the mebers of the group are specialists in different fields,
3. That decisions concerning (form and content of) the group work has to be made as group decisions, which means that responsability for the project is shared by all members of the group, and
4. Finally that the project has to be finished in due time.
The work is organized by using a systematic approach to engineering design, which means a split up of the design process into main phases as investigation of the need phase, product principle phase and product design phase.
Contents: The course consist of a theoretical part and a group oriented part closely tied together. The group oriented part as the major one with the theoretical part as an overall project support.
As a basis for the group work a product need is estimated by the teaching staff.
Two reports (Main report and Technical report) describes the technical solutions of the specified problem and an economic evaluation of the proposed solution. A Proces report describes the way in which the work progressed.
